Coroner Announces Twist in Lisa Marie Presley’s Cause of Death

Singer Lisa Marie Presley’s cause of death has been deferred by the coroner.

The only child of American Rock ‘n’ Roll legend Elvis died aged 54 after suffering a “full” cardiac arrest at her California home last Thursday.

Paramedics rushed Presley to hospital where she was pronounced brain dead and placed into an induced coma before she suffered a second cardiac arrest.

Her mother Priscilla confirmed hours later her daughter had died.

An initial autopsy examination was conducted on the songstress but the cause of death had to be deferred, according to the Los Angeles Coroner’s Office.

A spokesperson from the department said it meant the coroner is requesting for more information before they are able to determine how the 54-year-old died.

“Deferred means that after an autopsy, a cause of death has not been determined and the medical examiner is requesting more investigation into the death, including additional studies, Sarah Ardalani told multiple media outlets.

“Once the tests/studies come back, the doctor evaluates the case again and makes the cause of death determination.”

Presley was examined on January 14.

It’s understood she was found unresponsive in a bedroom of her Calabasas home on Thursday morning by her housekeeper, TMZ reported.

Her ex-husband Danny Keough, who continued to live with her for some time despite their separation, had returned from dropping the kids off at school about the same time and performed CPR until paramedics arrived.

She was taken to hospital but due to Presley’s dire condition, her family signed a do-not-resuscitate order in case she suffered another cardiac arrest, TMZ also reported.

Priscilla later confirmed with People magazine her daughter had died.

“It is with a heavy heart that I must share the devastating news that my beautiful daughter Lisa Marie has left us,” she said.

“She was the most passionate strong and loving woman I have ever known. We ask for privacy as we try to deal with this profound loss. Thank you for the love and prayers. At this time there will be no further comment.”

Preparations are underway at Elvis’ home of Graceland where Presley will be buried near her popular father and her son Benjamin who died by suicide in 2020.

Photos supplied to TMZ showed workers excavating her burial spot at the famous residence in Memphis, Tennessee, for Sunday morning’s memorial service.

It is set to be a public event, with between hundreds to thousands of mourners set to pay their respects to Elvis’ only daughter.

It’s not know which famous faces will be in attendance but Presley’s popularity in the showbusiness industry means there will likely be a few A-listers.

Fans of the 54-year-old have been spotted outside Graceland adding to the growing floral memorial and telling stories about the beloved singer.

However, the public have since been asked to make a donation to The Elvis Presley Charitable Foundation in lieu of flowers.

Presley was last seen in public appearing unsteady at the Golden Globe Awards last Tuesday night in Beverley Hills after the film Elvis had been nominated.

She was in attendance with her mother. The pair were later photographed alongside actor Austin Butler who played the iconic singer for the Baz Luhrmann biopic.

Butler, who won the gong for Best Actor in a Motion Picture Drama, had grown close with Presley and said his “heart is completely shattered” following her death.

“I am eternally grateful for the time I was lucky enough to be near her bright light and will forever cherish the quiet moments we shared. Her warmth, her love and her authenticity will always be remembered,” he told Variety.
