Naked Trans Man Who Terrified Teen Girl in Women’s Locker Room Speaks Out

The trans man accused of terrifying a 17-year-old girl in the women’s locker room of a California YMCA has hit back at the claims, insisting she did not parade around naked as was suggested, and labeling her critics ‘Neanderthals’.

Christynne Wood, 66, started transitioning in 2016 around the same time as he sued his old gym for not allowing him to use the women’s locker rooms.

As of December 2021, had not undergone bottom surgery.

Earlier this month, he was accused of ‘terrifying’ 17-year-old Rebecca Phillips in the women’s locker room of the Santeee YMCA.

Rebecca appeared before the City Council to ask for a rule change, saying she’d seen ‘a naked male in the women’s locker room’. She did not name Wood, nor did she say she’d seen a penis, and she has since clarified that she only saw his ‘backside’.

The experience, she said, her voice shaking with nerves, made her fear for her five-year-old sister and worry about her safety and privacy. She was vilified by LGBTQ activists.

Now, Wood is speaking out to accuse Phillips of lying.

In multiple interviews on local radio and TV stations, he has insisted she was never walking around naked, and claims she showered – as he always does – in one of the private stalls with the curtain closed.

He also spoke at a protest at the very gym where the incident in December unfolded.

‘I’m Christynne Lili Wrene Wood. I’m the scary transgender woman who that child misidentified as a man,’ he said.

He then praised children who had come to support him, saying: ‘You’re the people we truly love. And you’re the next generation to make those Neanderthals irrelevant.’

In interviews, Wood and his friends have insisted all he did was ‘take a shower’.

He has compared his fight to that of black people during the civil rights movement, and vowed to continue crusading for his cause.

In 2021, he was supported by the ACLU in a lawsuit against a branch of Crunch Gym, where he’d been told he couldn’t use the women’s locker rooms unless he had gender reassignment surgery.

He said she’d been targeted with homophobic slurs in the men’s locker room and didn’t feel safe.

As a compromise, the gym offered him access to what they called an underserviced VIP, Platinum men’s locker room, but Wood declined it.

Phillips, in her original complaint to the City Council, said: ‘As I was showering after my workout I saw a naked male in the women’s locker room. I immediately went back into the shower, terrified, and hid behind their flimsy excuse for a curtain until he was gone.

‘This is the YMCA, where hundreds of children spend their summer afternoons in child care camps. This is the YMCA where my little sister took gymnastics lessons.

‘A grown male can shower alongside a teenage girl at your YMCA, here in Santee,’ she said.

She said she complained to staff, but was slapped down and told that Wood was well within his rights to use the women’s locker room.

‘I felt like I had done something wrong,’ she said.

She has since appeared on FOX’s Tucker Carlson show where she said she didn’t know her comments would cause such uproar.

‘I didn’t even know it was being recorded. I had no idea it was going to get this nationwide response.

‘I just felt like it was my duty. People are realizing this is happening in their neighborhoods. Parents, women and children are outraged by this. My safety, my privacy was threatened. I had just been in the shower – one of most vulnerable positions a girl can be in.

‘I see his backside, so not only do I want to see him but I was terrified he was going to see me. I went right back into the shower…this isn’t empowering at all.

‘In our efforts to empower transgenders to express themselves, it’s threatening my safety, my privacy,’ she said.
